Diet for Prostate Cancer

By Editorial Staff

Men, listen up: What you eat can not only influence your risk of developing prostate cancer, but also its progression if you're unfortunate enough to develop it. Let's see what new research findings suggest about the power of a plant-based diet for helping you fight prostate cancer.

Just 1-2 more servings of healthy, plant-based foods; that's all it takes if you're suffering from prostate cancer to prevent cancer progression, according to the study, published in JAMA Network Open. Among 2,000-plus men with localized prostate cancer, eating a primarily plant-based diet reduced cancer progression risk by a whopping 47% compared with men whose diet contained the most animal products.

Plant foods, particularly fruits and vegetables, contain antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds, which research links to protection against both cancer development and progression, including prostate cancer. Remember, per the study, 1-2 more servings per day of plant-based foods is all it takes. If that seems daunting, start with one extra serving a day (or even every other day) and then build more plant-based foods into your diet over time. Your body will thank you for it.
